About MASS
The Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme (MASS) is a program run by Queensland Health to provide subsidies on suitable aids and equipment for Queenslanders with permanent and stabilised conditions or disabilities.
Subsidy funding is available on a range of aids and equipment through the following terms:
- Permanent loan basis
- Private ownership of equipment
- Purchase of consumable aids
Once a person has been approved for subsidy funding assistance, MASS will place an order with an approved supplier who will home-deliver the aids.
Clients may apply for replacement aids or equipment at intervals as per the MASS State-wide Prescriber Procedures.
Eligibility

You may be eligible for the Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme if you:
- Are a permanent resident of Queensland
AND
- Have a permanent and stabilised condition or disability
AND
- Hold one of the following cards:Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
- Veteran’s Affairs (DVA) Pensioner Concession Card
- Centrelink Health Care Card
- Queensland Government Seniors Card
- Centrelink Confirmation of Concession Card Entitlement Form
Applying for MASS
MASS applicants are required to organise a clinical assessment with an approved MASS heath care professional (prescriber).
Your local Community Health Centre should be able to assist you with your application, and together with your health care provider you can complete an application form to be sent to MASS for consideration.
The MASS Prescriber Procedures Manual contains outlines for how often a person may re-apply as there are varying application periods for different aids and equipment.
Most types of continence aids are provided as an expected six month supply however, to allow for administrative processing, a re-application should be sent to MASS one month before the renewal date.

Aids and equipment available are selected in order to allow people to live in their own homes and prevent premature or unnecessary residential care or hospital admittance.
Continence aids such as the following are available for subsidy under the MASS program:
- Reusable pants

- Disposable nappies
- Stretch pants
- Disposable pull-on style pads
- Disposable all-in-one pads
- Reusable bed pads
- Disposable catheters
- Indwelling catheters
- Latex sheaths
- Non-latex sheaths
- Night drainage bags
- Leg bags
- Catheter valves
